Dr. Domfe Apologises to Prof. Gyampo as the Two Scholars Reconcile After Public Misunderstanding

In a commendable display of humility and intellectual maturity, Development Economist Dr. George Domfe and renowned political scientist Professor Ransford Gyampo, who also serves as the CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, have successfully reconciled following a recent public disagreement that drew wide attention.

The reconciliation was revealed in a Facebook post shared by Dr. Domfe on November 20, 2025, where he disclosed that the pair had engaged in what he described as “a long and cordial telephone conversation.” During the discussion, the two academics addressed tensions that had arisen between them in the past week, culminating in a heated interaction at the TV3 studios on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Acknowledgement of Missteps

According to Dr. Domfe, Prof. Gyampo admitted that some of his earlier public remarks were regrettable. He expressed that those comments did not reflect the mutual respect and long-standing professional relationship between the two scholars. Their association, which spans years of academic collaboration and public engagement, has long been characterised by mutual admiration, making their recent clash particularly surprising to followers.

In a similar gesture of honesty and humility, Dr. Domfe acknowledged that his response to Prof. Gyampo’s remarks was also unfortunate. He noted that it did not align with the spirit of intellectual brotherhood they had cultivated over the years.

Mutual Apologies and Renewed Respect

Both men have since apologised to one another, firmly closing the chapter on what could have become an extended dispute.

“We have sincerely apologized to each other… and have mutually agreed to put this episode behind us and to move forward with renewed respect for each other,” Dr. Domfe wrote in his statement.

Their renewed commitment to professionalism and mutual respect has been praised by many observers, especially given how easily disagreements in the public space can escalate into prolonged hostility.

Setting an Example for National Dialogue

Dr. Domfe and Prof. Gyampo are both highly regarded voices in Ghana’s public discourse. Their analyses often shape national conversations on governance, development, and policy. Their ability to settle their differences amicably sets a powerful precedent at a time when public debates in the country—and across the world—are becoming increasingly polarised.

The two scholars emphasised that intellectual disagreements are natural and even necessary in democratic societies, but such differences must never degenerate into personal attacks. Instead, they reaffirmed their dedication to contributing constructively to Ghana’s development.

A Call for Calm Among Supporters

Dr. Domfe also appealed to supporters, friends, and relatives to respect the reconciliation and refrain from actions or commentary that might reignite tensions.

“I therefore respectfully urge our families, friends, and supporters to respect this mutual understanding and to continue to support us in our professional contributions to national development,” he added.

A Welcomed Resolution

The news of their reconciliation has been met with relief and admiration across social and professional circles. Many Ghanaians view this development as a sign of responsible leadership and emotional intelligence—qualities essential for strengthening the quality of national dialogue.

Their decision to prioritise peace, humility, and mutual respect sends an important reminder: even in moments of heated disagreement, reconciliation is always possible when individuals choose understanding over ego.
