University of Ghana Postpones 2024/2025 Academic Year Due to Strikes

The University of Ghana has postponed its 2024/2025 academic year due to the ongoing strikes by tertiary worker unions. This is due to the disruptions caused by the strikes which has made it impossible to prepare for the new academic year as planned.

In a statement from the Registrar’s Office, the university said the postponement affects regular programmes only and not special programmes. The decision was taken after careful consideration of the situation and the impact on students’ progress.

TEWU, SSA-UoG and FUSSAG have been on an indefinite strike over their conditions of service with the government. The strike has disrupted university activities making it impossible to have a smooth and effective start to the academic year.

While regular programmes will be delayed, special programmes will go on as planned. A new date for the 2024/2025 academic year will be communicated to students and stakeholders soon.

The postponement has caused confusion among students and their parents. Many were expecting to start their studies and progress in their academic journey. But the university’s decision is understandable given the strikes and the challenges they pose to the university.

Students and stakeholders should stay tuned for further updates from the University of Ghana. The university will keep you informed on the academic calendar.
