KODA Laid to Rest: Heartbreaking Scenes as Ghana's Gospel Music Fraternity Says Goodbye

The Ghanaian music industry gathered to pay their respects to renowned gospel singer, composer, and audio engineer, Kofi Owusu Duah Anto, popularly known as KODA, who passed away on April 21. His funeral service, held on September 20, was a poignant celebration of his life, music, and legacy.

KODA's battle with G6PD deficiency, a genetic disorder, came to an end at the young age of 46, leaving behind his wife, children, and a nation in mourning. The gospel music fraternity was particularly hard-hit, with fellow musicians and fans expressing shock and sadness.

At the funeral service, attendees donned white attire, symbolizing the joy and hope that KODA's music embodied. His wife delivered a heartfelt eulogy, remembering him as "the best husband any wife could pray for" and "the best father any child could pray for." Their children also shared moving tributes, recalling their father's playful nature and the immense void his passing has left.

KODA's contributions to Ghanaian gospel music are immeasurable. As a seasoned composer and audio engineer, he worked behind the scenes to elevate the genre, while his own music, including hits like "Nsem Pii," inspired countless fans.

Fellow gospel musician, Joe Mettle, previously expressed his disbelief at KODA's passing, highlighting the impact of his friendship and collaboration. Mettle's sentiments are echoed by many in the industry, who will deeply miss KODA's talent, humility, and dedication.

As KODA is laid to rest, his legacy lives on through his music, family, and the countless lives he touched. Our thoughts are with his loved ones, and we honor his memory by celebrating the profound impact he had on Ghanaian gospel music.

Here is a scene from the ceremony

Rest in peace, KODA. Your music and spirit will continue to inspire generations.
